EMILIO SCHUBERTH: THE TAILOR OF THE STARS
THE BIRTH OF MADE IN ITALY
Emilio Schuberth was the tailor whose destiny was written to become the founder of the Italian fashion industry. Born in Naples in 1904, he moved from Naples to Rome, but thanks to his exuberant creativity and strong fashion sense, he quickly reached every destination in the fashion scene of the time, from Paris to New York, passing through Berlin and many others. He traveled extensively through Asia, where he was inspired by the color palettes and vibrations, but always remaining faithful to the Made in Italy guidelines, which he was developing with others at the time.
THE GOLDEN AGE
Emilio Schuberth was known as “the tailor of the divas.” Some of his masterpieces were designed to be worn by Princess Soraya, Rita Hayworth, Ingrid Bergman, Bette Davis, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, and Anna Magnani. Every woman dreamed of a Schuberth dress for their wedding, and his name was flaunted on the invitation, “bridal dress made by Emilio Schuberth.” What they all sought in a Schuberth creation wasn’t just spectacular gowns, but the feeling of being a star.
HOLLYWOOD ON THE TIBER
Putting his signature on every outfit he wore or played himself in, Emilio Schuberth’s collaboration was highly sought after for the films of ‘Hollywood on the Tiber’ (as the Cinecittà film industry in Rome was called).
